Hello,
I just uploaded WSGopher 1.1 to several archive sites, including:
dewey.tis.inel.gov:pub/wsgopher
boombox.micro.umn.edu:pub/gopher/Windows
sunsite.unc.edu:pub/micro/pc-stuff/ms-windows/winsock/apps
ftp.demon.co.uk:pub/ibmpc/winsock/apps/wsgpoher
Well, in the first case I uploaded to that directory; in the other cases, I
uploaded to the appropriate "incoming" directory and asked the admin for
assistance.
What is it?
WSGopher is a Gopher+ client program for Microsoft Windows and WinSock
version 1.1. The fact that WinSock and WSGopher both have the same version
number is a coincidence.
What do you need to run it?
* 386 compatible or better; if there is enough interest I will provide a
286 binary
* WinSock 1.1, already installed and running; I suggest the latest version
from your vendor
* plenty of RAM; you'll probably want a minimum of 8BM, 16MB for comfort
* the program and files require 630KB of disk, but for downloaded files you
will probably need much more
* Microsoft Windows or Windows for Workgroups; WSGopher does not work with
NT, though I haven't tried Chicago yet. I hope to have an NT binary soon.
What is included?
* the program file
* three configuration files
* an announcement file that contains lots and lots of information,
including installation instructions
* a context sensitive help file
What's new?
Lots of stuff; read the file "announce.txt". WSGopher 1.1 has convenience
features, features to help network sys admins and Gopher server admins, more
robustness, pretty much better everything. I even have stuff in there
which will (hopefully) be supported by the new Unix Gopher server, version
2.1.
What are the terms for using it?
Good question:
WSGopher is copyrighted software. You may freely use any and all of
the files in the WSGopher distribution, and you may freely
distribute the file wsg-11.exe. You cannot remove or alter the
copyright notice. Also, you may not distribute for profit the
WSGopher executable or the file wsg-11.exe without permission from
EG&G Idaho, Inc. If you wish to do this, or if you wish to obtain a
non-exclusive source license, please contact Steve Borror, email
swb@inel.gov, phone (208) 526-3883, or mail me at gopher@tis.inel.gov.
That means that you can use it, you can copy it for your friends,
customers, co-workers, students, spouse, etc; you cannot resell it. If you
are writing a book or distributing a CD and wish to include it for free, or
if you wish to license WSGopher, please contact Steven Borror as described
above.
What else?
If you have any technical questions or experience any problems with the
software, please read the announce.txt file and/or consult the on-line
help; if you are still stuck, then please write gopher@tis.inel.gov. The
annouce.txt file contains instructions for reporting problems. Supplying
the information I ask for will help get your problem resolved much more
quickly.
Best regards,
Dave
